Welcome to Jim B. Satterfield Middle School and Trousdale County High School! Here is everything you should know about our Instrumental Band program:

Since 2002, under band director Robert A. Joines, 2nd and assistant director Steve Paxton, Trousdale County’s Instrumental Music Program has placed students in university and MTSBOA Mid-State honor bands, Blair School of Music at Vanderbilt Youth Symphonies, earned “Superior” and “Excellent” ratings at regional concert festivals, and its graduates have moved on to earn scholarships, major in music education, and participate in university band programs all across the state of Tennessee and Southern Kentucky. The Marching Yellow Jackets have performed at parades, Blue Cross Bowl football games, and at marching competitions, where they consistently earn first place trophies for field commander, color guard, percussion, and band.  In addition, the Concert Band participated in the 2008 Tennessee Music Education Association State Concert Festival. Trousdale is the smallest county by area in Tennessee and has one of the smallest populations. The instrumental music program in Trousdale County includes concert band, marching band, jazz band, wind & percussion ensembles, as many as two winter guards and a winter drumline. The Program hosts the annual State Division I Marching Band State Champions Directors’ Meeting in January. In addition, the program hosts an annual marching invitational that has become the largest in the state, the last Saturday in September.

In January 2011, the band represented Trousdale County in Governor Bill Haslam’s Inaugural Parade.

***In 2018, for the FIRST TIME IN HISTORY, the Marching Yellow Jackets made Finals and finished the year ranked 9th in the State at the Tennessee Division I Marching Band State Championship.
