Today, more than 2500 8th grade students from Sumner and Trousdale County were at Volunteer State Community College to explore their career future. The Career Exploration Fair provided an avenue for eighth graders preparing to enter local high schools to explore a breadth of career areas and make an informed decision when choosing their courses. The majority of high school dropouts occur during the freshman year. This fair will help everyone raise awareness and excitement that will show in-coming freshman the relevance of their studies and the opportunities their future holds. As opposed to a job fair where students visit companies, the Career Exploration fair allowed companies to work together to present career options for students to explore. The main focus of the exhibits were to showcase a broad spectrum of possible careers and provide the academic pathways leading to those careers.
