What do PreK students do?
When you walk into our high-quality PreK classrooms, you will see children involved in active, hands-on learning that engages each child and fosters a love of learning. Activities are designed to enhance a child's natural curiosity and desire to learn through participation in both large and small group activities. Play is essential to the development of strong learners. We follow the TN Early Learning Developmental Standards and the TN Childcare Rules and Regulations. We use a state approved curriculum called Creative Curriculum by Teaching Strategies and The TN Foundational Skills Curriculum Supplement.
Do I pay for PreK?
There is no charge for children to attend the Voluntary PreK program.
When will I find out if my child was eligible for PreK?
Parents and guardians will be notified by the PreK Supervisor by mid July.
What happens after I submit the application?
Applications will be considered completed once all required documentation has been submitted. The income eligibility worksheet is reviewed by the Trousdale County Schools PreK staff to help determine eligibility. The PreK Supervisor will review the application to take into consideration any other eligibility factors.
My child was accepted. What is next?
Your child's teacher will contact you a week or so before school begins to answer any questions and to give you information about Open House and our transitional schedule for PreK students. If you have not heard from your teacher, you may contact the PreK Supervisor, Linda Carey, at 615-374-2193.
What if my child does not qualify?
Your child's name will be placed on a waiting list. Any additional spaces will be filled from our waiting list (based on our sliding scale so as to target the next most at-risk students). Families will be contacted by the middle of September (per State guidelines) to see if you are still interested in the Pre-K program.
