In accordance with the state and federal regulations implementing the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), this is to inform you of Trousdale County Board of Education’s intent to destroy personally identifiable information related to special education services maintained on students who received special education services under an Individual Education Plan while attending Trousdale County Schools but who are no longer enrolled.

If you wish to maintain this information for your personal records, you need to notify us upon receipt of this notice; otherwise, the information will be destroyed June 30 of each year or, five (5) years after a student graduates.

Please be advised that the records may be needed by you for Social Security Benefits or other purposes.

 Records to be destroyed are as follows:

1.       Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)

2.       Evaluation Reports – Test Protocols

3.       Notification of Meetings

4.       Review of Existing Data Summaries

5.       Notices of Action

6.       All other personally identifiable information within the Special Education file

 *The reason for the destruction of the above-listed items is because they are no longer needed to provide educational services since it has been more than five (5) years since he/she has received special education services.

 *The district will maintain a permanent record, without time limitation, of a student’s name, address and phone number, his/her grades, attendance record, classes attended, grade level completed and the year completed. These records should be requested from Trousdale County High School, (615) 374-2201.

 *You may contact the special education office at (615) 374-2193 or at the address 103 Lock Six Rd., Hartsville, Tennessee 37074 to make an appointment to obtain your special education records.

 Please be advised, you must show a picture ID before records will be released.

Currently, records of students with a DOB prior to June 30, 1991, and who previously received special education services have already been destroyed. Further destruction of records of students born prior to June 30, 1997, and/or who graduated prior to 2015, will take place in the summer of 2020.


"Say Dyslexia" Bill (Public Chapter 1058)
During the 2016 Legislation Session, the general assembly passed this bill, which requires school districts to screen for characteristics of dyslexia through their existing RTI procedures and to provide "dyslexia-specific tiered interventions" for students that demonstrate a need. Students with the characteristics of dyslexia who receive targeted intervention in their area of deficit and who make insufficient progress, may be identified as having a specific learning disability under existing TDOE standards.  The "Dyslexia Resource Guide" can be accessed HERE:
