Important AfterSchool Academy Notice

Trousdale County Elementary School has received a Lottery for Education Afterschool Grant for the past 18 years to conduct our afterschool program. This grant has been a great experience for the students and families who participated. The completion for the grant funding was recently held to determine who will receive the grants for the next three years.

Seventy-nine groups applied for the grants this year. To qualify for the Tennessee Lottery for Education Afterschool Programs (LEAPs), at least 50% of the students must qualify for free/reduced lunch or face educational disadvantages (e.g., at risk of academic failure, behind grade level, or impacted by neglect). Even though all Trousdale County students receive free lunch, only 46.68% qualify as economically disadvantaged based on income. This information, along with Trousdale County’s low student behavior statistics, our student’s good test scores, and the number of grant applications received by the state, resulted in Trousdale County not being awarded the grant for the 2027-2030 grant cycle.

Therefore, Trousdale County Elementary will not be operating an afterschool program this year. We regret the late notice of this action, but the grant determination letter was not received until Friday evening, July 17. We wish our students and parents the best and will continue looking for opportunities for afterschool care as they become available in the future.
